Liquid Light

Liquid Light is printed using 5 layers of linoblock reduction where I challenged my block to resemble woodblock.
Light is fluid. It travels in a straight line at twice the speed of sound. It can reflect off objects and refract through others. It interferes, disperses, diffracts, polarizes, and creates shadow. These changeable qualities are what makes light fluid.
Light also forms the biological basis of visual perception and the human visual system is geared toward understanding, creating meaning and assigning value.
Liquid Light represents the often overlooked biological connections that weave throughout all aspects of life. In particular, the underworlds rooted within the land and beneath our feet bring forward a portal of light and energy that I find both fascinating and magical.
Recent scientific theories describe the evolutionary attributes of trees and how they have learned to perceive one another through communication systems previously ascribed to human intelligence. A big part of these methodologies involve mycorrhizal networks of fungi on the root systems underground.
This image is layered with colour and line to capture an underground portal teeming with life.
Life’s beauty arises from symbiotic relationships and interdependence between all living things. Because life is a network there cannot be a separation between humans and the natural landscapes. My intention is to draw awareness that the boundaries we construct are simply illusionary.
